James smiled weakly as she opened the door.
What's wrong?
He held her face in his hands, wiping away some tears she'd missed.

Sofia hugged him tightly
I had another dream, and there's this- this big gap in my memory and I woke up in the corridor, and I',m so confused and I have this bad feeling but I'm not sure what it's about

James hugged her hard and kissed her head.
Big gap in your memory? What dream?
He walked into her room and closed the door. He sat her on the bed and stood in front of her, bending down so they were face to face.

Yeah a big gap, one minute I was in the science lab and this guy was kicking me and then he ran out and then I wake up on the corridor. Sofia's lip started to quiver
And the dream doesn't matter I phoned my mum, she was fine

A guy was kicking you?
James scowled.
You had a dream about your mum?!

James frowned and held her face in his hands.
What was the dream about?

She was upset about my Dad and me, she was drunk and so she climbed onto a bridge and jumped off Sofia shuddered, she was getting ready to cry again

James felt her shudder and frowned. He kissed her forehead.
Okay, call her back later and if she doesn't answer then call the police.

Sofia nodded, there was a knock at the door, Sofia stood up

Sofia's mum tried to concentrate on walking in a straight line along the corridor as she waited for her daughter to answer, she heard her daughter ask who it was.
Sweety, it's me, it's your Mother, open the door she giggled randomly

Sofia put her head in her hands
Oh great!

Do you want me to leave? asked James, looking at the door.

Sofia shook her head
No, well, you don't have to stay if you don't want to She opened the door to see her mum grinning madly.

Surprise! I thought I'd come and see you, you sounded so upset on the phone she hiccupped and she looked around the room and saw James
Oh! who's this..... Goth?!?! she squinted at James

James groaned.
I prefer the term Emo, he muttered.
He stepped forwards, put on a smile and held out his hand.
I'm James, nice to meet you.

Maria stared at his hand
I'm not shaking your hand if that's what you want she scoweled at James

Sofia rolled her eyes and whispered to James
My mums a mean drunk, sorry, just ignore her

James sighed, he'd had it all before. He retracted his hand and let it hand by his side.
I guessed, he muttered to Sofia.

Sofia scoweled at her mum
You need to go sober up, come back when you have and try not to dis-respect my friends she took James's hand in her own

James had been called that before, but it still hurt him.

Maria turned to Sofia instead of adressing James
I'm running out of lies to tell my friends about your absence, I can't tell them the truth, just think of the shame it will bring to the family, I'll be too embarressed to ever show my face again, you understand don't you petal she tugged on her arm trying to pull her towards the door.

James frowned and shook his head.
You should be proud for what she can do!

This is family buisness, you are far from family she ripped Sofia's hand from James's aand pulled her towards the door

James laughed.
She wont be able to grow up normal, she'll always be what she is now. And, do you honestly think you're the only parent that thinks their kid is a freak? My parents don't even speak to me anymore.

James swallowed loudly, he was angry, and this time it was his own anger. His jaw was clenched and his hands were balled into fists.

Sofia turned around
I'm so, so sorry, I should have told you to go, I'm so embarressed, sorry

James took a deep breath in and put of a smile.
Its okay, I've had worse.
