Before James could take his shot, his phone in his pocket went off. Which was weird. He stood up straight and pulled it out. He looked at the number and raised both eyebrows. Mum?!

James stared at the phone. It stopped ringing and then started to ring again a few minutes later. Sofia knew the deal about him and his parents.

James sighed. He picked up the phone like it was red hot and answered it. He held the phone to his ear.
"Hi, Mum," he muttered.
"Hey, J, hows it going?" his mum asked.
James swallowed loudly and leaned against the pool table.

James squeezed her hand.
"Its going fine, Mum," he told her.
"Look, the reason I called is because I wanted to tell you that your old mate will be coming to that place" - she hissed the word - "soon. Her mother came round mine the other month and told me that she'd found out and asked where I'd sent you."
"Is that all you called for?" asked James.
"Yes," said James mum.
"So, you didn't call to ask if everything was going okay, if I was happy? Or even wish me a happy birthday, since you missed it the other month? You disgust me, Mum, dont call me again, even if to tell me my mates are coming."
He put the phone down on her. Maybe he'd been a bit mean. He took in a deep breath.
