2059 Role Play Thead.

Chloe flinched. She didn't turn to look at him as she told him.
Me and Jack had gone to a friends birthday party. It was the very first day of the infection. We had a great time, we had fun, sang some songs, ate some food. But the trouble started before we even got home.
Our house had been attacked while we were gone, and they didn't survive it. We were home to find bits of them here and there. I cried for days. We moved out the same day, but its not been the same since.
My silver-lining in all this is: if me and Jack die, at least we'll be with our family.
The tears came thick and fast.

Gerald had never been too good at comforting. He moved quickly towards her and turned her round. He pulled out some tissue from his pockets and dried her face before rubbing her back Heyheyhey... cmon now... it's okay, now would they want you to get so worked up about it? I dont think so. I may not have met them but I think they'd want you and Jack to stay stonger than ever and focus on surviving. He paused unsure of if his comforting skills were any good.

Chloe wiped her eyes.
I know, I know, and I can't change the past. Its still painful, anf its never going to get better.

He kept rubbing her back and nodded.

Chloe leaned into him and sighed. She started up at the blue sky.
You'd think it'll ever end? she asked.

Gerald put his arm around her. I don't know. But every day I hope so. Every single day.

Somehow I hope someone will find some sort of immunity or cure. He paused, with a sudden sad realisation. But if i'm honest that may never happen and I'm not exactly a scientist, so I can't even be sure that if everything goes back to normal then there is even a chance for the animals survivng or returning to how they were. And of course , as you said , the cities are ruined and humanity is at the brink of extinction. But I do believe that there is a cure and I still try to find it myself every single day. He paused again, thinking. Let's put it this way if there is a cure to end this virus for animals and for humans, it will be found. He looked at her with a small philosophical grin.

Until then, the only cure for anyone or anything infected is a bullet through their skull.
Chloe shivvered at such violence.

Gerald held on to her in silence for a while. Then, he felt a single drop of rain fall onto his head. He looked up and gasped at the huge black thunderstorm that seemed to have just appeared above them. C'mon Tapping her lightly on the shoulder. We have to get back inside! He said, pointing upwards. He knew how dangerous simple rain could be in the present world and he also knew how quickly this light drizzle would turn into a full blown thunderstorm. They had but a few seconds.

Gerald ran for the door. He went to open it when he found the doorstop unblocked next to his foot. He twisted the handle but of course it was locked shut. Shit. He had to think but there was no time. He had a thought. He grabbed the rope on his back. He guessed that although she would be able to free run to an extent she almost definetely wouldn't be able to handle the now slippery and barely passable exterior of the building. Without word he pulled her towards him and started wrapping it around her. Once secure he tied the other end to himself and said I'm gonna lower you down. When you get in there grab onto something and stay right near but not in front of the window. Got it?

Chloe nodded and gripped the rope.
What are you gonna do?

I'll follow. I shouldn't slip but if I do you'll be holding on tight. He signalled for he to go and took up a position to hold her weight.

Chloe glanced down as she walked towards the edge. She shivvered and turned her back on the open space. She leant backwards and walked down the side of the building.

Gerald felt the strain on the rope and held it well occasionally glancing up at the rain checking how bad it was.

Chloe was dragged in through the window by Jack. She untied the rope and tugged on it to show she was off. She glanced out the window at the black sky. The rain picked up.

Jack pulled her back from the window, but Chloe stuck her head out, ignoring the rain, looking for Gerald.

Gerald tugged the rope once to signal he was ready to descend if she had tied the rope to something solid. He waited for the return signal of two tugs, looking more frequently up at the cloud above them, willing it not to pour heavily within the next few seconds.

Chloe tied the rope to a hook on the wall and tugged back.

Gerald felt the tug and quickly lowered himself down each floor heading to the apartment window. He lowered one foot after the other towards the window below when he looked up once more. The rain suddenly gushed at that moment as if breaking its banks.

Gerald tried to act in the split second he saw it coming and leaned towards the building hoping for some hold on the side of it, without success. He managed to glance up once more before the gushing rain hit down and swept his feet from the building.

Gerald! screamed Chloe as she saw him slip.

Gerald hit his head on a foothold on the way down and suddenly his vision blurred and his hearing became echoed. He only slightly caught the shout before flying past the window, stunned, and falling down to the rope's length. He could barely feel the backlash as the rope reached its end bouncing up and straining from the momentum.

Chloe grabbed the rope and pulled.
Jack, help me!
Jack grabbed it and they both pulled.
Gerald? Speak to me!

Gerald looked up and saw the blurred outlines of his surroundings even through the torrential rain around him. He gazed up, grinning and dazed. He felt the rope tighten and lift slightly, then felt it drop about 10 centimetres, most likely from a slight breaking in the object the rope wastied at the other end.
